Set the safety boundary. Route smoke, sparking, burning odor, repeated breaker trips, or damaged wiring to stop-use guidance. Keep diagnosis and replacement inside qualified service; do not publish instructions for opening a live cabinet or discharging a capacitor.
Separate symptom from finding. Explain why humming, slow starting, warm air, intermittent operation, or a stopped fan can have several causes. The recommendation should follow inspection and measurement rather than a phone-only assumption.
Document the component. Identify whether the finding involves a run, start, or dual-run capacitor and which load it serves. Record the marked capacitance, voltage rating, tolerance, measured result, physical condition, and related connection findings where appropriate.
Match the replacement. State that the installed part must match the equipment and manufacturer requirements, including capacitance, voltage rating, temperature and application, terminal arrangement, dimensions, mounting, and approved substitutions. “Universal” should not mean unspecified.
Define the whole quote. Separate the service-call or diagnostic fee, part, labor, after-hours premium, related repairs, warranty, and exclusions. If a contactor, motor, compressor, hard-start device, or larger repair is proposed, make it a distinct evidence-backed line item.
Close the diagnostic loop. Describe the readings and operating checks performed after installation, what result is reported in writing, and what would trigger further diagnosis. Never imply that capacitor replacement guarantees a lasting repair or restores every aspect of system performance.
