Route the complaint. Ask whether air moves at the indoor vents, whether the outdoor fan runs, what sounds are present, whether the breaker tripped, when the fault began, and whether the system is currently off. Avoid asking a homeowner to open panels or touch electrical parts.
Identify the failed function. Explain how the technician distinguishes a motor problem from a failed capacitor, control signal, contactor or relay, wiring fault, obstructed wheel or blade, bearing issue, airflow restriction, compressor problem, or another system fault.
Record the evidence. The written finding should identify the equipment, motor type, model or rated specifications where available, relevant measurements, visible damage, wheel or blade condition, and the test that supports the recommendation.
Match the repair scope. State whether the estimate uses an original or approved replacement, whether an electronically commutated motor needs a separate module, which related parts are included, what must be ordered, and how access or rooftop work changes the scope.
Compare repair context. If a larger repair is proposed, put the motor-only option and any broader option on comparable written scopes. Separate current failed parts from preventive suggestions, parts coverage from labor, and verified system facts from estimates about future life.
Verify operation. Describe the startup record the customer receives and the conditions that could require more work. A new motor does not by itself prove correct airflow, correct refrigerant operation, a clean coil, a healthy compressor, or a resolved root cause.
